What is a Troll?

(Thanks go to SE-779 at the 2010 Georgia Race Tracker)

Since I can't be here all the time to watch over the site for trolls, I thought I'd provide some guidelines for defining trolls and what to do about them:

How to define a troll: A troll is a person who is engaging in behavior which is directly contrary to the stated goals of the site, which is to provide a place to go to to find out about most, if not all, races in California. There are a number of things which very clearly constitute trolling, which I will go over now. Examples of trolling include the following:

1. "DemocRATS suk", or "To hell with Rethuglicans" or any of the other derivations of true trolling are not allowed. Don't argue, just let me know about them.

2. Advertisements are in some cases considered thread jacking, but only if a user is posting the same comment to multiple threads. That behavior is not tolerated, and may result in banning.

3.Off-topic posts. In conversations, it is rude to interrupt a thread conversation with your own unrelated threadjacking. If I hear of this, you will be warned three times. If I have to intervene more than three times on this issue, you will be banned.

4. Posting proven-false information, conspiracy theories, or debunked talking points. This behavior is very annoying, and will result in banning if it happens more than three times.

5. Posting personal attacks on other site users, including following them from thread to thread. Not only is this behavior not tolerated, it will result in banning without any warning.

6. Attempting to reveal the personal information of other site users. This is not just trolling, but is expressly forbidden and will result in immediate banning without warning.
